Mexico Lime Tree

The Mexico lime tree, also known as the Mexican lime or Key lime (Citrus aurantiifolia), is a small, productive citrus tree prized for its aromatic, tangy fruits.

• Origin: Native to Southeast Asia; introduced to the Middle East, North Africa, and later to the Americas via Spanish explorers.
• Chill Hours: Requires minimal to no chill hours (0–100 hours); ideal for tropical and subtropical climates.
• Altitude: Grows well from sea level up to around 1,200 meters; sensitive to frost.
• Pollination: Self-pollinating, but bee activity can enhance fruit production.
• Tree Size: Small to medium; typically reaches 6–13 feet (2–4 m) in height; can be kept smaller with pruning.
• Harvest Time: Bears fruit year-round in warm climates, with main harvest from late summer through winter.

• Usage of Fruits: Used fresh, in juices, marinades, desserts, cocktails (especially Key lime pie and margaritas), and for essential oil extraction.

• Fruits and Flavor: Small (2.5–5 cm), round fruits with thin, green to yellow skin when ripe; juicy and highly aromatic; flavor is sharp, tangy, and slightly bitter with a distinctive citrus aroma.
