Hosui is a popular Asian pear variety known for its juicy, crisp texture and beautiful bronze-gold skin.

  • Origin: Developed in Japan in 1972 from a cross between Kikusui and Yakumo.
  • Chill Hours: Requires approximately 300–400 chill hours.
  • Altitude: Grows well up to 1,800 meters in suitable temperate to subtropical climates.
  • Pollination: Not self-fertile – requires a compatible pollinizer such as Shinseiki, 20th Century (Nijisseiki), or Bartlett.
  • Tree Size: Medium-sized tree with vigorous, spreading growth.
  • Harvest Time: Typically harvested in mid to late summer (August–September, depending on climate).
